Tuan Lam
Lam has found success in poker despite his beginnings. Lam was born in Vietnam and was there during the worst ever conflict that Vietnam has seen. He survived the war and left Vietnam behind as soon as he was able, and old enough to work. He was 19 and left to work as a general labourer for a metal company.
Lam went to Canada where he still lives today. Lam started work in a casino working as a card dealer. He loved this job, but knew he was meant for more. He also worked as filler at poker tables that were shorthanded. This meant he had to learn how to play poker and play it well enough to be believed as a genuine player.
This is a real tale of a person that goes from rags to riches in a relatively short time. Lam went to World Series of Poker in 2007 and came 2nd, and for all of his hard work he finally took home an absolutely amazing $4,840,981. To win this amount, Lam played careful and tight hands of poker. It was because of this he watched everyone else fall at the hurdles. A finish of second place at the main event is a huge success by anyone’s standards and Tuan has 3 money finishes to date in wsop tournaments.
Lam has used some of the winnings he has made at various competitions to help others in Vietnam. He also travels frequently back to spend time with his family. A true tale of glory at any odds, Lam will be remembered for his characteristic style and his flair for poker. His success is an inspiration to many people and demonstrates the positive effect poker can have on people’s lives, which is important as often a lot of focus is placed on the negative aspects of gambling.
